  • What's Industry Accreditation?

Eureka Landscapes - Brightwater Park 003

Industry accreditation and certification is a form of industry self regulation. Through significant consultation and review, industry sets what they believe are the skill levels, qualifications, systems, procedures and experience that a business or individual within an industry should have to enable them to operate to at least an acceptable industry standard and preferably to an industry best practice standard.

A well developed, administered and marketed scheme can have a significant benefit to both an industry and also the accredited business or individual. These benefits can flow through in the form of higher quality work and productivity, better overall standards, greater professionalism and profile leading to higher wages and better conditions all round. Industry accreditation and certification is a prerequisite for a contractor to tender or quote in some industries.

  • Why do the Landscape and Garden Maintenance Industries need Accreditation?

Eureka Landscapes - Brightwater Park 012

The landscape industry is a substantial contributor to the Australian economy in terms of turnover and numbers of employees. Sitting at the hub of the Lifestyle Horticulture supply and demand chain, landscaping also has a significant effect on the livability of our urban environments and quality of life.

The landscape industry is partially regulated mainly for construction activities through QBCC licensing (See licensing). However, there is little regulation in the horticultural side of landscaping and garden maintenance. With relatively low start up costs, this makes it easy for fly by nighters and unqualified operators to come into the market and undercut professional contractors taking work and giving the industry a bad name.

To lift the professionalism, quality, profile and conditions, the landscape and garden maintenance industries will benefit from industry designed and managed accreditation program.
