Against a backdrop of continuous improvement we are currently reviewing the popular LQ Domestic Landscaping Contracts. As part of this process members have been encouraged to attend a workshop designed in part to further tweak clauses and refine useability to the uniqueness of our industry.
Members who attended the recently completed Sunshine Coast and Brisbane North events have found the evenings very enlightening regardless of their perceived level of knowledge on the use and completion of contract documents.
It's not too late to register for the Gold Coast & Brisbane South events

Businesses and residents in inner Brisbane suburbs are being urged to check their properties and report suspicious fire ants to Biosecurity Queensland.
Nests were recently located and destroyed in the suburbs of St Lucia, Fairfield, and Holland Park West.
Biosecurity Queensland officers have conducted surveillance in the surrounding areas, however they need the community to be their eyes on the ground.
If you work or live in the area, please check your property and report any suspect fire ants to Biosecurity Queensland to ensure there are no more fire ants lurking further afield.
Minister for Housing & Public Works Mick de Brenni is introducing new laws which will apply to everyone in the building products supply chain - not just the tradie at the end of the line.
"It’s about making sure everyone knows the building products they use are safe and fit for their intended purpose."
Mr de Brenni said the new laws would also allow Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) officers to inspect buildings, take samples for testing and direct rectifications. The new laws are expected to be in place before the end of the year.
The government is calling for submissions from interested parties.
Inspiring the Future has now been officially launched. Members can get involved in this unique program by agreeing to 'donate' just an hour of your time to speak to local high school students about the potential of a landscaping career.
Our industry is facing a skills shortage and a great way to address this is to encourage more school leavers into the industry by sharing your wealth of knowledge and experience about just how broad a career pathway is available to them should they choose to be a 'landscaper'!

Our approach to work place health and safety had traditionally been to use our common sense in day to
day work practices and conform with the minimum that was required by law. With the recent
introduction of the amended WHS laws and the offer of a free information night from Landscape
Queensland partner Stack Masula, we decided it was time to look at our approach more seriously.
Like many contractors I’m sure, we had our reservations about the cost to our business and the time it
would take to implement the required changes. We have a staff of 12, and for our business I estimate
it took me just one day of my own time, plus two days of a dedicated staff member, and around
$3,000.00 in costs. There were the expected jokes and rolling of eyes when we first started making
changes, but talking to staff now it is genuinely appreciated that we talk about safety regularly and
consider their safety at work a serious issue. It is also a comforting feeling as an employer to know that
if there is ever an incident at work then you have done what can reasonably be expected to have avoided
The documentation can be daunting when read in isolation, but in consultation with Stack Masula it can
be modified to suit individual workplaces (as we have done), so that it does not become a burden.
I would recommend it to all Landscape Queensland members who haven’t already done so.
