World Skills - Brisbane Hosts National Landscape Apprentices
WorldSkills Australia is a social enterprise that passionately believes skills drive the future of young people, and of Australia and is part of an international WorldSkills movement. They have been enabling young people to showcase their trade and skills talents since 1981 and competitions across various trades are held at Regional, National and then International level.
WorldSkills Australia recently conducted the first Australian Skills Excellence Forum. Hosted by TAFE Qld, apprentices from around Australia converged on Brisbane for a 2-day Masterclass to assist with their professional development and this included 5 landscape apprentices keen to hone their skills.
LQ collaborated with WorldSkills to facilitate training for the first day focusing on skills excellence and arranged for training and mentoring on the topics of outdoor tiling/grouting/paving and off-form concreting.
Thanks to LQ members Mapei and CBD Landscape Construction for their involvement in this event. Mapei provided hands-on training covering off on adhesives, grouting as well as cobblestones and paving, late in the day Dave from CBD took the apprentices on a walking tour of the multi-award-winning STARS Project at Herston sharing his knowledge of the intricate concreting processes involved.
Whilst it was a less-than-perfect winter day weather-wise for our visitors, they all thoroughly enjoyed the day prior to heading to a formal dinner that evening.
